The Neglected Jewish Cemetary of Klodawa

Before the war.  Before September 1939.  Before Chelmno.  Our familes in Klodawa buried their beloved relatives, friends and neighbors in the sole Jewish cemetary in town.  By one estimate, roughly 2,000 headstones once populated this plot of land.  Today there are none.  Still, buried beneath the overgrown and unkempt field are the final remains of our ancestors.

I visited the cemetary in July 2001 and recorded these images and thoughts.

    Dean-

I was finally able to view this video (as well as the other two). I didn't realize that the problem was I hadn't downloaded Quicktime. It was one of those bittersweet feelings--knowing that we're watching the place where our ancestors are buried--where there were once ceremonies held at their gravesides. As you say, perhaps our forefathers stood together in honour of a neighbour's or friend's death. Now, it is just an overgrown, all but forgotten piece of land. The sky and sounds could not have been more appropriate. Are you sure you didn't box the sound-effect?? Too coincidental, in my opinion. They know we're here, and telling they're story! That was them letting their presence be know to you, and so to all of us.

Thank you for filming this and sharing.
